Ladonna Smith of Montross had apparently been swerving and tailgating another driver on Deacon Road around 7:40 p.m. Thursday, April 25, the county sheriff said.

Smith's vehicle pulled into the parking lot of the 7-Eleven, located at 327 Deacon Road, the 911 caller told police. Deputy Amato found Smith's vehicle and made contact with her.

Deputy Amato saw a smoking pipe in plain view, and Smith gave a false identity to police. While the driver said she was not driving recklessly and the reporting party must be “lying,” it was discovered she has a past when it comes to driving recklessly, the sheriff's office said.

After uncovering her true identity, it was revealed she had a suspended license and was wanted out of Stafford County for felony hit and run, police said. That's when Smith was detained.

Drugs were found during a search Smith's car and during a pat-down on her, police said. She was charged with two counts of possession of controlled substances, providing a false identification to police, and driving with a suspended license. She was also served on her outstanding charge and held at Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
